About Us: The Institute for Nigerian
Languages is currently a campus of the University of
Nigeria (UN) in Aba. It was formerly known as the
National Institute for Nigerian Languages (NINLAN).
It moved to its permanent site along Opobo Road, Aba
in November 2007 after it became a campus of the
University of Nigeria.
The temporary
site, located in Ogbor Hill, has basically, the
staff schools-Nursery, Primary and Secondary. The
current Director, Professor Clara Ikekeonwu, is
Professor of Linguistics and former Head, Department
of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages, University
of Nigeria, Nsukka.
There are staff in the areas of
Linguistics, Nigerian Languages & Culture, Education
and Ancillary Studies.
Office of the Director:
The Office of
the Director is in charge of the whole of
Administration. It is directly linked to the Vice
Chancellor's Office, University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
Busary:The
Bursary unit is headed by Mr. Andrew Obienyem. The
unit handles all financial matters of the Institute.
Registry: The Registry, headed by Mr. Chris
Nwankwor, is responsible for the day-to-day running
of the affairs of the Institute. Providing direction
for staff's daily routines, it takes orders and
instructions directly from the Director and passes
such orders and instructions through a vertical
top-down channel of communication to all units
thereby enabling a free flow of information and
activities of the Institute.
