The scope of the library  collection (with legal repository right), covers every work written in or about Nigerian languages - major and non major.

It also holds books in all areas of theoretical linguistics - Phonetics, Phonology, Syntax, Morphology and Semantics - especially as they pertain to African Languages.

Inclusive in the holdings are Nigerian Languages' books on Culture, History and Arts:  all genres of Oral and Written Literature, books on criticism, stylistics, Language Education as well as general Education.

The Institute is both a Centre for the exchange  of information in the study of Nigerian Languages as well as one for research and teaching of Nigerian Languages.

The clientele of the library includes:

·                      Students of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages at Certificate, Diploma,  Degree and Post Graduate Levels.

·                      Primary and Secondary School teachers of Nigerian Languages.

·                      Government and non-governmental personnel interested in acquiring Communication    Skills in Nigerian Languages.

·                      Diplomats, Foreigners, Business associates interested in learning  Nigerian Languages;

·                      Such other persons interested in research into Nigerian Languages.

The virtual catalogue is currently being developed.
